Surprise for Son

(I couldn’t get the picture off my phone, but it’s of the Ninja Turtles guarding my toddler’s blankie.)

All he had was Raph and Leo
When he stepped onto the bus
Now coming home
He has no clue
Donnie and Mikey have arrived

I carry him into the house
He fell asleep along the way
Whispers of school
As he wakes up
And I stand him on the floor

Where is blankie?
He asks with a yawn
I tell him he has new friends
Wandering the living room
In a toddler daze

His eyes fall on the turtles
Protecting blankie from all foes
He moves them all away
Stopping as he counts
He has four instead of two

I see his tiny wheels turning
Until the light bulb clicks
‘I have more Tuttles!’
He declares with glee
And throws Leo across the room

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Enough to make a man cry! *sniff*

  2. Sheesh Dean…so soppy. Man, these allergies are killing me… Hand me a tissue.

  3. this tugged at my heart strings – especially since my oldest just left for college – btw – his blankey and baby are on the rocking chair in my room – where he left them before we went away.

Penny for your thoughts (we won't resell them)
