The Losers (Prompt Day 27)

CSB-Logo-BradleyI watched as the number one player from the neighboring city shuffled the rubber ball with his feet. The ball popped up to his knees where he bounced it for a few then it dropped down where he sent it over to his teammate near the hoop. I watched with my breath held as the ball went up and felt myself screaming it out with the other people from my city as that ball bounced away.

This was one of the closest matches I have seen in a long time. No one had scored the entire time and the time was almost coming to a close. It was apparent the neighbor city were the better players but our home team were holding their own.

I watched in disbelief as the ball was fumbled from our player and the neighbor city quickly took possession of it. It bounced around and then it seemed like time slowed down. The ball bounced up and almost went in the hoop again but Rosco, managed to block it with his head.

Toritio took control and passed it to Frico. Frico was not the best player and I could hear the crowd waver as they watch with horrified expression what Frico would do. Frico had an intense gaze on his face, I smiled with a bit of amusement as I pictured him crouching down to relieve himself of something hard.

Frico bounced the ball and placed the kick. The ball almost seemed to hover in air as if the very air had become a thick jelly paste. The crowd once again watched in silence as their eyes were only on the ball.

A giant roar erupted from everyone and I found myself on my feet screaming like an idiot. My city had won! The opposing team all collapsed to their knees in the center of the field. It was an amazing spectacle.

The enforcer from their city came out slowly, his expression was dour. He walked up to the first player who had his head down with his neck exposed. The enforcer swung his giant stone axe cleaving off the head. I cheered with the rest of the crowd. One by one the enforcer moved through the players until the last one had been executed.

It has been an amazing event. One for the stone telling.
