That Perfect Love… (A Poem)

That Perfect Love…
does not exist.
It’s a myth.
It’s a plot.
It’s nature’s carrot
and guarantees
the continuation
of our species.
That perfect love…
is only found
in moments
soon forgotten
when some imperfection
dares to show itself.
That perfect love…
would be
perfectly boring.

  1. I’d counter that, that perfect love is perfect by virtue of its imperfection. Only because I’m fond of the contradiction. 🙂 Lovely piece, Ellespeth.

    • That’s so true, Sahm. Did you read it after I put the word carrot in there?
Thank you for reading and commenting on my work.

      • I’d say after because it was there when I read it. Brilliant line, btw. Nature’s carrot. I can’t count how many different images brings to mind. Some good, some bad. To paraphrase the chorus of a song I can no longer remember the name of, “That’s the way love goes…” I suppose.

  2. Sadly, I must agree with this poem 🙂

    • 😦 Love is imperfect and fragile and wonderful and painful. That’s what makes it – you know – something some of us would like to experience. Thank you for reading my work and commenting. I do appreciate this

  3. Very true. Every love has its flaws.

  4. I never thought of it that way, but honestly, if the world was perfect, it wouldn’t be very interesting (although I could give up war and famine).

  5. That could be the perfect poem (if not for the fact that it doesn’t exist). 🙂

  6. The perfect Love is in our mindset. By virtue all LOve relationships are perfect, but what makes them imperfect is our thoughts.!Imperfection is needed in an ideal world. Beautiful Piece 🙂
