The Censored Self (A Poem)

The Censored Self
when I say what I mean
or write what I mean
or even
think what I mean
I take it back
to not cause the offense
I didn’t mean.
That won’t work anymore.
I don’t mind
I don’t mind
my own worst critic
but I’ll be damned
if I’ll be
my own worst censor.

  1. We really are forced to censor our words and thoughts for the benefit of those with thin skin. Odd how we’re legally allowed to say anything, but we’re socially rebuked if we speak our mind even without bad words and insults.
