For Granted

You never know if you need it
Until you go without
A day without food
Easier than one thinks
Giving up a favorite thing
Tearing at your heart
Human affection missing
Making one feel lost and cold
A broken dream
Dashed upon your road

We take so much as is
Never fearing things will end
Until darkness looms ahead
And the door behind is locked
Enjoying every day and perk
Unwilling to consider
That dawn will change it all
Is it human to be blissful?
For as long as time permits
Or can we keep our joy eternal?

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. Very real and touching. Nice!

  3. That’s a great question: “Is it human to be blissful?” Watching humans (and being one) can certainly make you wonder. 🙂

    • It really does. I feels like second-nature to go on as if nothing will change. To focus on the idea that you can lose what you have causes people to call you ‘negative’ or a ‘worrier’. So, it is almost like it’s self-inflicted blissfulness because the alternative is scary.
