Prompt: The Phantom Feeling

For the Angst and Longing prompt.

By Dean

Our moistened lips touch
And I am jolted awake
To a bed of crumpled blankets
Only made by me
My companion the alarm
Which I curse at as I hit

I still feel your lips
Pressed against my own
Delicious and warm
Yet an illusion of my mind
A psychic torture
That I have come to know

The day moves along
At times me guard falls low
Opening me up
To the phantoms of my heart
Born from loving need
And the harshness of denial

Ghostly arms around my neck
Specter kisses on my cheek
An invisible form
Curled upon my lap
Giving me pause and tears
As reality grinds me down

Let me return to slumber
Where my life is joined with yours
Mundane tasks together
Or heated nights of passion
Consciousnesses is a curse
For my dreams are so much sweeter

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Oh I felt your angst alright, if only we could live in our dreams 😉

  2. Very well done. Many times I wished (wish) I could remain asleep since the waking world was (is) waiting to continue the torture. I created a character and a series of short stories along this line. We always need to remember that the dream state is what helps handle the stress of the real thing. Sometimes though I still wish I could stay there. Thanks for this it was an excellent interpretation of the prompt.

  3. Oh I hate when you can’t get back to that great dream!!! Well done!!

  4. I have so been there. Well done, Charles. You picture the feeling perfectly. 🙂

  5. Oh! Those haunting arms and wet kisses…I liked this, Charles.
