Slivers – for Angst and Longing Prompt

Magic (Photo credit: bambola_world)

I feel these dreadful slivers beneath my skin
Susseration, supplication, such silent longing
Rippling over veins that bleed to my heart
Telling me the secrets
What it is to be apart

My knuckles are whitened and blanched by grasping
There’s nothing before me, no love en-clasping
I felt your sigh on the wildest breeze
Drawing out my hunger
By painful degrees

My eyes so blind in a world of isolation
I’ve drenched myself in a flood of cold sensation
In your life you wander unaware
Worst of this all
You neither know nor care

This shimmering cord is reaching from my heart
in spells, incantations is a place where we may start
I need this so, you share what I now feel
You cannot know how I
Care not if it’s real

Free me from these awful slivers ‘neath my skin
Open your shrouded door, be kind and let me in
All your gentleness I’d yet return
If you free me from where
I thirst and burn

Like most people, I have a number of sides to me. The most interesting one probably emerges through my writing, hence this blog. I love to read, and also to write, and so this is a way to share both.

  1. Really powerful and filled with angst and longing. I don’t know, but I think you might want to look for another object of all this power. Great job.

  2. John to my comment of ‘really powerful’. The sliver imagery was great and gave me chills.

  3. Intense… and well-written. Great write.

  4. Wow! Powerfully filled with both! Excellent.

  5. Wow… this was … wow. Very good! 🙂

  6. I can’t decide — “I felt your sigh on the wildest breeze / Drawing out my hunger / By painful degrees” or “In your life you wander unaware / Worst of this all / You neither know nor care” — I love the whole poem, of course, but these lines I keep coming back to … over and over. Longing and angst.
