The Mood

Is it the weather?
That sinks me into gloom.
Head aching
Against the stormy sky
Making me feel lone

Is it those I meet?
Too happy for my nature
Or feeding my darkness
Blinding me with light
Or dragging me to misery

Is it life?
Eating at my edges
Until the nerves are raw
Exposing me to pain
That always seeps back in

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. It’s the weather. 🙂 It does it to me too. S.A.D. But it might be a bit of everything right enough.;)x

  2. For me it is the time of year. Too many memories mixed with too death and then throw in the holidays – I wish I could disappear from September till the end of March. But I can’t.

  3. captures the mood perfectly!

  4. Definitely the time of year.

  5. Whatever it is, it has hit me too. It’s been raining here all day so that means I’m stuck indoors and that doesn’t help. I’m in a funk that isn’t going away.

  6. Lousy summer season for us with the rains everyday…and now the fall doesn’t seem to bring any relief. Poem reflects the crappiness well.

  7. If you’re feeling physically ill–sinuses, headaches, post-flu ennui–then happy talk isn’t going to help. I’m a miserable person when I’m in that netherworld of too sick to enjoy life but not sick enough to stay in bed and not care. I hope you feel better soon. Although you do write good poetry even when you’re not feeling well.
