Those Memorable Now And Later Moments (Poem for a Yesterday Prompt)

Those Memorable Now And Later Moments
Remember the candy Now n’ Laters –
the candy you ate at the movies
on that sexy drive-in Saturday night’s date
and were still trying to finish
before Sunday’s Holy Communion fast began?
Remember praying to God
that the host would just dissolve
miraculously
so you didn’t have to sin
again
and pry it from the roof of your mouth
with your tongue?
Yesterday…
when sins were hidden
behind velvet curtained
confessionals.
Remember yesterday
when we believed
it was more important
for a god to forgive us
that it was to be forgiven
by ourselves
for eating Now n’ Laters
when we knew damned well
they weren’t good for our teeth?

  1. I loved those candies. Though, I did lose two loose teeth to them.

  2. I still have to pry it from the roof of my mouth, lol 🙂

  3. I do remember and I think that is a good thing given my age. Nice poem.

  4. Wonderful poem, Ellespeth. And you indeed know how to evoke old (fond) memories 🙂

Penny for your thoughts (we won't resell them)
