Halloween Prompt: The Ghostly Gala

ghost - houjseghost-photographyghostRaynhamBest

For Katie’s Prompt.

Avoid the corner house
With weeds upon its stoop
And age upon its face
For it is where the ghosts will meet
This dark and starless night

They step off their spectral train
Dressed in their finest garb
Tipping hats and bowing
To the loyal doorman
As they float through wood and brick

Phantoms chatting in the dim
As poltergeists drink punch
Specters and spooks dance
To the lilting tunes of old
Leaving younger ghosts to moan

The clocks ring once
And lights flicker twice
The hostess comes to greet
Graceful drifting down the stairs
Her dress shifting years of dust

They follow her grand lead
Each rising to the rafters
They spin until their bodies stretch
Pushing the gala to its great end
And sealing the Gates of Death

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  3. Charles, I loved this! Very spooky!

  4. Druidical. (Doesn’t quite fit, I suppose, but I just love this word and never get to use it.) 🙂

  5. Good job! Very creepy, if I must say so myself! 🙂
