When Tomorrow Comes – Prompt

Yesterday is over,

Memories and shadow,

Whispers of a lifetime,

Echoes that we borrow.

Picture postcard images,

Reflections that are spent,

Those faded tinted witnesses,

To where the laughter went.

Today is only marking,

The beat upon life’s drum,

A melody of circumstance,

The rhythm we’ve become.

We play a game of chance,

With cards already dealt,

And hope the suit we follow,

Is not a life miss-spent.

When tomorrow comes,

Defined by all we’ve been,

We pray no regret is evident,

In all that we have seen.

We’ll leave a trailing scent

A hint of who we were,

And we will be remembered,

Before our shadows blur.

She has been in the witness protection programme for a number of years and once lived in Brighton as a bearded mechanic called Dave!
