Winter Wasteland

Chilling me to the bone
And tearing at my skin
This is not the place
For humans to live and thrive
Urging me to slumber
Packing on the pounds
From sedentary days

Snow packed onto the path
Hiding icy traps
That none will try to clear
Danger for all walkers
Forcing me to drive
Wasting gas and muscles
To get so close to home

Give me the olden days
Where man followed beasts
Migrating to the warmth
Primal as it may be
I’d never feel a wasted day
Locked within these walls
A shivering, short-haired beast

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Sometimes I think the same way…of course I live in a place that doesn’t get that bad, I’m lucky…rainy and yucky and a little depressing it can get…but not glacial!

  2. I can relate – I can walk in rain – or dance. I can walk in snow or dance – but – I am so tired of the single digits and negative digits that i am neither motivated to walk or dance or even drive for that matter, though I must drive out of necessity. soon…i hope…. spring will spring out of the mounds of ice and snow:) crossing my fingers…..

  3. All that winter hibernation / or snow trugging makes one appreciate spring when it finally makes the snow leave. 🙂

  4. My sentiments exactly. Love how you captured the misery. 🙂
