Amen n’ Om

   Amen n' Om
Tiny boats
lit by candles
floating by the thousand millions
down the holy Ganges
carry whispered sacred messages
from the Buddha you
and the Buddha me.
Once home
I wear a tiny scroll
in a tiny bottle
on a golden cord
around my neck.
Perhaps
one day
compassion
won't feel so heavy
upon my heart
or so choking and
sometimes
impossible to bear
for the Buddha you
and the Buddha me.
Right now
though
let's share a chocolate
and watch the sun
move across a red morning sky.
To desire chocolate is good
for the Buddha you
and the Buddha me.

  1. Wonderful, Ellspeth! I like how your poem moves from first being a visual feast of the candles on the river, to that sense of heaviness around your neck, heaviness from a light object, and then end with another kind of lightness, sharing/desiring chocolate.

    • Hi Marie and thank you! It’s amazing what others can see in a work and what makes poetry so exciting for me. I hope all is well with you and that you shared a chocolate or two yesterday…

  2. Incredibly somber and calm. Has a very slow and steady rhythm when I read it out loud.

  3. So good to see you. Lovely and loving the chocolate.

    • Hi Susan – it’s good to be somewhat back. That damned flu/cold crapola has really been horrible for both of us. It’s been three weeks and I think we still have another week before we are back 100%. Thanks for your comment *Ellespeth passes Susan a chocolate*

  4. Miss E: very nice first impression! Loving the pic and whole mood! We will surely be back around again. Thanks for a very nice moment in time… Cissy in Texas
