For As Long As the Music Plays

Submitted by Russ Towne

It was their first slow dance together. The young man had waited a long time for this moment. He looked in her eyes and said, “I love you.”

She leaned toward him and whispered in his ear, “I’ll love you for as long as the music plays.”

His heart began to break at her words. The young man wished the dance would go on forever, but less than three minutes later it ended. He looked at her with sad eyes, nodded, and began to walk away.

She reached for his hand, locked her eyes on his, and whispered, “The music is still playing in my heart.”

It kept playing for the rest of their lives.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. For some reason, the link to Imaginings of a Grateful Man (short fictional stories) isn’t working from this site. (I’m sure the error is at my end.) If you experience the same problem, please go to my non-fiction blog A Grateful Man at http://russtowne.com and click on the “My Blogs” tab to go to Imaginings. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

  2. That is the sweetest damn thing I’ve read in a long while!

  3. So glad the ending turned it around.

Penny for your thoughts (we won't resell them)
