The food supply on Nopporg was nearly exhausted. Nopporgians would begin starving in a year or two if new food sources from other planets weren’t quickly found. Earth was the nearest planet that had similar growing conditions, and food was plentiful in large parts of it.
Nopporgians were technically superior to Earthlings and could have taken the food by force but chose to negotiate. The Earthlings, sensing a desperate buyer, drove a hard bargain, but an agreement was reached.
The latter’s huge ship was filled with over a thousand head of cattle, plus many other farm animals, and seeds for over one hundred types of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, over three hundred people joined the great adventure to help Earth’s neighbors save themselves. Ranchers and farmers, specialists from a wide variety of disciplines, including sustainable farming and ranching, irrigation, water preservation, and animal husbandry were excited about the opportunity to share their knowledge and skill. Their families were allowed to join them. Many more would-be adventurers were turned away for lack of capacity.
As the great ship blasted off, second-in-command, Leejed, smiled. “We have everything we need, and the Earthlings appear thrilled.”
His leader, Tresong, nodded. “Yes. I don’t think they’d be nearly so excited if they knew that after they teach us how to grow their food, we’re going to eat them, too.”
