Writing Challenge: This Old Home

This old home

Facade of stone with eyes of glass
Searching for new pawns
Serene and beautiful in the day
Who would believe the terrors of its nights?

Ghost from those that died before
And demons of all moods
Play games of fear and blood
With those that dare to dwell

Neighbors never hear the screams
For the walls devour all the noise
And windows put on a show
With illusions of no harm

Whispers of a deal at night
Promises of beautiful green
In return for souls
Enriched by primal terror

Do people ever wonder?
Why the new neighbors hide away
No suspicions or concerns
From the ones that called the horrors

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. An interesting take on this prompt, Charles…where your mind can go – sometimes!

    “…Neighbors never hear the screams
For the walls devour all the noise
And windows put on a show
    With illusions of no harm…”

    What a dramatic stanza!

So good to read your poetry, as usual…

Penny for your thoughts (we won't resell them)
